A Faster Path to the Cloud “It’s now actually an easier upgrade to go from Oracle E-Business Suite to the cloud than from one version of Oracle E-Business Suite to another,” said Oracle Executive Chairman and Chief Technology Officer Larry Ellison. Ellison was announcing a new offering that reduces by as much as 30% the time and cost of migrating from Oracle on-premises applications to its cloud applications. Plus, once you’ve moved to the cloud, “that’s the last upgrade you’ll ever do,” Ellison said. The offering, called Oracle Soar to the Cloud, identifies existing integrations and customizations in the on-premises Oracle application, scans for configurations, and from that automatically configures an instance of Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning Cloud. It also automatically extracts, transforms, and loads data from the on-premises application into the cloud application. And, by tapping a sizable library of prebuilt integrations—such as Salesforce.com CRM to Oracle ERP Cloud—Oracle Soar eliminates the need to build such integrations from scratch. — Margaret Harrist, Oracle content director
IoT Sparks Practical Business Changes Data collected from Internet of Things devices can show company leaders how well they’re using their space so they know “whether it’s time to invest in more factory or office space, sublet, and so on,” says Oracle’s Harish Gaur. This is one of three patterns Gaur sees most often as he meets with companies trying to make practical use of IoT.
