Good morning Valued Subscriber,
It's showdown day for the Canberra Liberals. This morning Elizabeth Lee will seek another term leading the Canberra Liberals, who are in opposition for the seventh term in a row. After breaking the news the NACC will review its decision not to act on referrals from the robodebt royal commission, Miriam Webber dives into the official reasoning. In a report released shortly after our news story yesterday, commissioner Paul Brereton was found to have engaged in "officer misconduct" over conflicts of interest. The vast majority of federal pollies have access to the Qantas Chairman's Lounge, Brittney Levinson reports, and she names the few exceptions. Meanwhile, the journalist who revealed the Prime Minister's penchant for free upgrades, Joe Aston, says politicians should be paid much more but banned from perks like the airline lounge.
One pollie who isn't a lounge regular is ACT senator David Pocock. He's putting his house up for sale, reports Lucinda Garbutt-Young. It's the Canberra house he lived in when he launched his bid for the Senate. And to segue from politics to sport, one of Pocock's successors at the Brumbies has been named Australia's top rugby player of the year. Caden Helmers reports on our latest John Eales Medallist. We're starting the day with a mostly sunny morning and then an expected top of 25 degrees. There's a slight chance of a shower in the afternoon. John-Paul Moloney, managing editor |
