Fife’s Specialist Business Advice programme can provide SMEs in Fife that are looking to develop with up to three days of fully-funded consultancy support. Tailored, expert advice is available from specialists across a range of topics, from business strategy to sales and marketing and from financial planning to IT. 

The Specialist Business Advice programme is delivered by Business Gateway Fife on behalf of Fife Council. It is fully funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Less Than One Month To Short-Term Lets Licensing Deadline

The Scottish Government has reminded short-term let operators in Scotland to apply for a licence before the 1st October deadline, highlighting that no application so far has been rejected.

Licensing has been introduced to ensure short-term lets in Scotland are safe and meet consistent quality standards, including having gas certificates and suitable electrical equipment.

Scottish Co-Investment Fund

The Scottish Co-Investment Fund (SCF) from Scottish Enterprise provides match-funding for Scottish start-up, early-stage or growing companies that are seeking investment alongside accredited co-investment partners.

The fund is designed to address a finance gap and support your growth plans.

Funding is available in amounts from £100,000 up to £2 million, as part of a total deal size that typically ranges from £200,000 up to £10 million.

Cluny Activities Centre Drives Its Ambitions Forward

Fife’s premier outdoor activity centre, Cluny Activities, based near Cluny, Kirkcaldy, has come a long way since it diversified from a farm in 1992.

As well as becoming one of Scotland’s largest clay grounds, the business also offers a café, golf course, golf driving range, disc golf and foot golf, archery and rifle shooting in a site over 50 acres. Marine Fund Scotland

This fund supports investments and jobs in the seafood sectors, marine environment and coastal communities in Scotland.

The deadline for the current round of funding is 14th September 2023.

The fund replaces the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) following the UK’s exit from the EU. The EMFF supported the sustainable growth of the marine economy in coastal communities, in sectors such as fishing, aquaculture and seafood processing.

The Low Emission Zone (LEZ) Retrofit Fund can help you improve your vehicles and avoid LEZ penalties. If you operate non-compliant vehicles that have retrofit solutions available in a planned LEZ, you could receive funding to cover up to 70% of the costs to make these changes to your vehicle.

By retrofitting vehicles with solutions approved by the Clean Vehicle Retrofit Accreditation Scheme (CVRAS), you can reduce your vehicle emissions and help improve local air quality. By becoming LEZ compliant, you can also avoid penalties.

Community Ownership Fund - Round Three Now Open 

The Prospectus for the third round of the UK Government’s Community Ownership Fund has been published. This fund will run until April 2025 and aims to help communities take ownership of assets and amenities at risk of closure, so is only open to bids from eligible community organisations. 

Applying to the fund is a two-stage process, with bidders having to successfully pass the Expression of Interest stage before they can submit a detailed application to one of the subsequent bid windows. There will be four bid windows per year, and applicants who have successfully passed the EOI stage can apply to any of the subsequent bid windows.

Inward and Outward Processing

Inward Processing (IP) is used to obtain relief from customs duties and import VAT on goods that are imported from outside the UK for processing. The basic principle is to allow UK exporters to be more competitive by reducing their processing costs, Processes that are permitted under IP include manufacturing sorting and packing repair and refurbishment.

This half day training course will examine the principles and terminology of IP and some of the operations available within IP and will look briefly at Outward Processing.
