Investigators release final report in plane crash that killed TV anchor Nancy Parker

By Bob Warren

Crash investigation: The 2019 plane crash that claimed the life of WVUE-TV anchor Nancy Parker and popular pilot Franklin J.P. Augustus prompted an outpouring of grief. The NTSB has now released its investigation into the crash near New Orleans' Lakefront Airport. We have it here.

Tax exemption battle? For years, the state’s granting tax exemptions to businesses under the Industrial Tax Exemption Program was a foregone conclusion. Changes Gov. John Bel Edwards made to the program empowered local governments, school boards and sheriff’s offices to reject some exemptions and recoup those tax dollars. But now some wonder if Edwards' changes will survive.

Ukraine escape: For one New Orleans family, the Russian war against Ukraine is hitting frighteningly close to home. Arnie and Susan Fielkow adopted two daughters from Ukraine 15 years ago. The family is now trying to help the girls’ biological sisters get out. "We’re all watching the news and nobody knows what’s next," Arnie Fielkow said.

Zion! Some good news for the Pelicans - Zion Williamson has "rejoined" the team as he continues nursing his injured foot back to health. Still no word on when he might play.

Now, some not-so-good Pels news: Star guard CJ McCullum is out for tonight’s game against the Charlotte Hornets, joining Brandon Ingram, who will miss another game with a hamstring problem. It means the Pels, who are fighting to stay in the playoff race, will be without their top two scorers. Ugh.

The world's coolest cashier: If you haven't heard this exchange between a customer and cashier at a Kenner Popeye's, take a few minutes to give it a listen. Guaranteed to set your mind right as you slide into the weekend.

Hope you enjoyed today’s Lunch Line. Thanks for taking a break with us. And of course, be sure to check out NOLA.com for more news throughout the day.
