| Gary/Chicago International Airport Acquires Griffith-Merrillville Airport Gary/Chicago International Airport (GCIA) announced the acquisition of Griffith-Merrillville Airport, located nearby in Lake County, Indiana. The acquisition, valued at $1.8 million, began in 2022 and was funded by local airport-generated revenue sources, according to GCIA. The airport credits the FAA and the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) for its help in “making it eligible for federal and state funding improvement to Griffith-Merrillville Airport.” Griffith-Merrillville Airport, originally designed for smaller aircraft, features grooved runways and over 175,000 ft.² of ramp space. |
