Indian Horse screens at special Canadian Museum of History event, March 27

Indian Horse, from producers Paula Devonshire (NSI Features FirstNSI Totally Televison) and Trish Dolman (NSI Features First), screens at a special event at the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau on March 27.

The screening is presented by the Honourable Carolyn Bennett, Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs; the Honourable Jane Philpott, Minster of Indigenous Services; and Senator Murray Sinclair, Chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.

The film follows Saul Indian Horse who, at age seven, is taken from his Ojibway family and committed to a Catholic residential school where he witnesses abuse and is not allowed to speak his own language. Despite this, Saul develops a talent for hockey which ultimately leads him to the pros.

Adapted from Richard Wagamese’s award-winning novel, the film is directed by Stephen Campanelli.

Indian Horse opens in theatres across Canada on April 13, 2018.

In 2004 Sheldon Oberman, a Jewish storyteller from Winnipeg, passed away. At his funeral the presiding Rabbi said that Sheldon’s spirit was with the congregants in the sanctuary.

For filmmaker Saul Henteleff this was a revelation that began a personal and spiritual journey into the meaning of Jewish death. My Jewish Death is the result of this journey.

Training boot camp for NSI Features First producers runs this week in Toronto

This year’s NSI Features First producers embark on their own boot camp this week in Toronto.

Producers Amelia Wasserman (She Smiles Back), Ryan West (Must Kill Karl), Scott Lepp (Wilting Iris) and Christopher Redmond (The Stars Shine in Temperance) will participate in sessions to strengthen the business skills related to their projects.

They’ll also attend the opening night of the Canadian Film Festival tonight.
