Shows from NSI grads part of APTN’s 2018 fall season

APTN released its fall 2018 schedule, with both new and returning TV series coming to the broadcaster next month.

The third season of true crime documentary series Taken from producers Lisa Meeches (NSI Indigenous programs advisor, NSI Storytellers) and Kyle Irving (NSI Global Marketing) of Eagle Vision will air. The show focuses on solving the mysteries behind Canada’s missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls. APTN will co-broadcast the third season of Taken with CBC.

Also airing is new doc series Future History (pictured) from director/producer Jennifer Podemski (NSI Global Marketing) which challenges the settler-colonial paradigm while celebrating the reclamation and revitalization of Indigenous knowledge.

With the introduction of new Indigenous language programming on the network, season 5 of Mohawk Girls, from Tracey Deer (NSI Storytellers, Featuring Aboriginal Stories Program), Cynthia Knight (NSI Drama Prize), and Catherine Bainbridge and Christina Fon (both NSI Global Marketing), will air in Mohawk.

APTN’s fall season begins September 3.

The community of Nain in northern Labrador is rich with breathtaking landscapes and people with a strong storytelling history.

Created through the St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival’s FRAMED film education series, in partnership with the Nunatsiavut Government, this film explores throat singing – a special talent and traditional game for both fun and public entertainment, which was nearly destroyed but has since been revived.

If your film is programmed, you have a chance of winning the A&E Short Filmmakers Award for best film. We accept films released after January 1, 2013.

All NSI Online Short Film Festival winners receive a complimentary Friend membership for the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television and are qualified to be nominated for a Canadian Screen Award (if award criteria are met).

Your film must be less than 30 mins long. Drama, comedy, animation, documentary, sci-fi, horror, music video and experimental are all eligible and must be made by a Canadian writer, director or producer.
