TELUS STORYHIVE web series and 100K project Nerdvana from project lead Tito Guillen celebrates its world premiere this week in Fort McMurray at Suncor Energy Centre for the Performing Arts on August 17 at 7 p.m.

All nine season 1 episodes, including the previously released pilot, will screen with a mid-show intermission. The full season of Nerdvana: The Web Series will be available weekly starting August 20 on the TELUS STORYHIVE YouTube channel as well as TELUS Optik cable channel 707.

The event is open to all ages and includes live entertainment, prop and costume displays, door prizes, giveaways and a costume contest. Everyone attending is encouraged to wear a costume of their choice even if they do not intend to compete for best in show.

In the series, the staff of small-town comic store Nerdvana love their jobs, but their world gets turned upside down when they meet their counterparts from a parallel universe. Now, lost in the multi-verse and facing an enemy with a familiar face, they must become the best versions of themselves and find their way home before it’s too late.

NSI IndigiDocs short Cedar Tree of Life from director Odessa Shuquaya and producer April Johnson has upcoming festival screenings in the US and Canada over the next two months.

It screens at San Francisco Green Film Festival on Saturday, September 8 and at Edmonton International Film Festival on September 29.

It also screens in the American Museum of Natural History’s Margaret Mead Film Festival in New York on October 20.

The film follows three Indigenous women who hold knowledge of cedar, passed down from their grandmothers and mothers. They commune with this sacred tree as they practice and share their culture and art in both traditional and contemporary contexts. Cedar is a life-giver. Cedar is a transformer.

Cedar Tree of Life reveals how each woman uses the material/medicine of cedar and how it expresses itself through them. From garments to homes to a burial material for those who have passed on, cedar was and is inextricably linked to all aspects of life for Salish peoples.
