Short doc Indian Rights For Indian Women, from director Alex Lazarowich (NSI IndigiDocs), won two audience favourite awards at the 2018 Calgary International Film Festival.

The film was awarded the 2018 audience favourite Alberta short and the 2018 audience favourite documentary short.

Indian Rights For Indian Women follows three fierce young women who, in the 1970s, helped form the Alberta branch of Indian Rights for Indian Women and start a grassroots battle to regain rights for themselves and generations of Indigenous women when treaty status was stripped from those who married non-status men.

NSI IndigiDocs short Cedar Tree of Life from director Odessa Shuquaya and producer April Johnson won the programmer’s choice for best Canadian short doc at the 2018 Edmonton International Film Festival.

The film screens as part of the fest’s award-winning shorts program on Saturday, October 6 at 10:30 a.m.
