Petie Chalifoux selected for inaugural Pacific Screenwriting Program

Petie Chalifoux (NSI IndigiDocs) is one of six participants selected for the first Pacific Screenwriting Program (PSP) scripted series lab.

Starting in January, screenwriters will take part in a series of workshops, events and mentorship opportunities over the course of 14 weeks. They will focus on honing their craft, gaining a better understanding of the global TV business and strengthening their collaboration, presentation and pitching skills.

The PSP scripted series lab, which aims to offer BC-based screenwriters career advancement opportunities, is led by showrunner and exec producer Sarah Dodd.

Shorts from Trevor Anderson, Alex Lazarowich to screen at Sundance 2019

Two films from NSI grads are among the five Canadian shorts accepted to the 2019 Sundance Film Festival.

Documentary Fast Horse from Alex Lazarowich (NSI IndigiDocs) and Docking from Trevor Anderson (NSI Drama Prize) will screen.

In Docking, Trevor reflects on his fear of dating. In Fast Horse, Blackfoot bareback horse-racing returns in the astonishingly dangerous Indian Relay. Siksika horseman Allison Red Crow struggles with second-hand horses and a new jockey on his way to challenge the best riders in the Blackfoot Confederacy.

Sundance runs January 24 to February 3, 2019.

Call for films / submit by December 7

We’re accepting films through FilmFreeway until Friday, December 7, 2018. Films programmed from this submission period will appear online between January 7 and March 25, 2019.

If your film is programmed, you have a chance of winning the A&E Short Filmmakers Award for best film. We accept films released after January 1, 2013.

All NSI Online Short Film Festival winners receive a complimentary Friend membership for the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television and are qualified to be nominated for a Canadian Screen Award (if award criteria are met).

Your film must be less than 30 mins long. Drama, comedy, animation, documentary, sci-fi, horror, music video and experimental are all eligible and must be made by a Canadian writer, director or producer.
