Sonya Ballantyne recognized as a #rolemodel by Barbie Posted: 08 Jan 2019 02:37 PM PST Sonya Ballantyne (CBC New Indigenous Voices, NSI IndigiDocs) has been recognized by Toys R Us and Barbie as one of their role models of the week. The campaign aims to showcase examples of inspirational women. From Sheroes to Inspiring Women, the latest Barbie role models are all extraordinary women. According to their website, Barbie is committed to shining a light on empowering role models past and present in an effort to inspire more girls. STORYHIVE 100K web series Esluna: The First Monolith premieres on YouTube Posted: 08 Jan 2019 01:31 PM PST STORYHIVE 100K web series Esluna: The First Monolith (formerly Esluna: The World Beyond) from director Denver Jackson and producer Daniel Hogg (NSI Drama Prize, Script to Screen) has premiered on YouTube. The nine-episode series is a sci-fi fantasy telling the story of a young adventurer trying to recover an ancient artifact before a misguided ruler can use it to bring destruction to their land. Denver animated the series entirely himself using hand-drawn animation and background painting in his signature style, as well as creating and compositing all the lighting, atmospheric and visual effects. Tori Larsen’s short The Good Death screens at Pendance Film Festival Posted: 08 Jan 2019 11:30 AM PST The Good Death, a short film from writer/director Tori Larsen (NSI Drama Prize, NSI Totally Television), will screen at Toronto’s Pendance Film Festival, running from January 31 to February 3. The film follows squabbling siblings Mary and Chuck, who have nothing in common except their last name. With their family home for sale, Mary and Chuck are tasked with deciding what to do with the relics of their childhood and just how to box up their Broadway veteran mother’s larger than life, ever-looming personality. Pendance Film Festival aims to give a serious platform to innovative storytellers and to spark a new love affair with cinema among modern audiences starving for truth and meaning on the big screen.
