Jeremy Lutter’s short Giltrude’s Dwelling premieres at Vancouver Short Film Fest Posted: 22 Jan 2019 01:12 PM PST Giltrude’s Dwelling, a new short from Jeremy Lutter (NSI Drama Prize, NSI Features First), has its world premiere at the Vancouver Short Film Festival on January 25. Giltrude’s Dwelling screens as part of the January 25 shorts program at 8 p.m. at the Vancity Theatre. Orphaned at the age of 11, Giltrude, an interdimensional shut-in, has waited 15 years for her parents to come home. When a life or death dilemma comes knocking, Giltrude must look beyond her front door and learn to face the outside universe. The event, on February 5 and 6 in Toronto, showcases the latest innovations and technologies from invited exhibitors and includes industry panels and seminars. On February 5, Shelly and NSI Features First grad Shauna MacDonald will be in conversation about all things NSI. They’ll discuss the main programs NSI offers and give some insight into the process from application to acceptance, right through to getting your project made. Event registration is required. First-time Hot Docs delegates: register for free event to learn how to get the most out of the fest Posted: 22 Jan 2019 09:47 AM PST Hot Docs is hosting an industry information boot camp on February 4 at 2 p.m (ET) to help new Hot Docs delegates get the most out of the fest. The event will include information about programs and opportunities at the 2019 festival and an overview of Hot Docs industry activities. The Hot Docs industry and programming teams will be on hand to answer questions. The event includes a discussion with writer/director/producer Liz Marshall who pitched her film Meat the Future at the Hot Docs Forum 2018. Liz will share her experience of pitching to international financiers and tips and tricks for navigating industry activities. Light refreshments will be served. Celebrate Black History Month with two Trey Anthony events in Toronto Posted: 22 Jan 2019 08:36 AM PST Trey Anthony (NSI Totally Television) announced two events at Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre as part of Kuumba, Toronto’s longest-running celebration of Black History Month. On February 15 she presents her show OH NO! I’m becoming my mother and other fears of black women. The interactive night of discussion will explore lessons learned from our mothers, infertility, choosing not to have children, and how to balance work, love and motherhood. It also includes a screening of Trey’s short How Black Mothers Say I Love You. On February 16 Trey hosts an installment of her standup comedy series Dat Gyal Funny! Comedian Gina Yashere headlines the night. Tickets for both events are available through Harbourfront Centre’s website. Danis Goulet named 2019 Sundance Institute Indigenous Film Fellow Posted: 22 Jan 2019 08:30 AM PST Danis Goulet (NSI Drama Prize) has been named an Indigenous Film Fellow of the 2019 Sundance Institute. Her feature script Night Raiders has received development support from the institute. The 2019 Sundance Film Festival kicks off January 24. Previously we wrote about Alex Lazarowich and Trevor Anderson’s shorts screening at the fest.
