NSI’s Board of Directors appoints Joy Loewen NSI acting executive director Posted: 08 May 2019 02:26 PM PDT The Board of Directors of the National Screen Institute – Canada (NSI) are pleased to announce the appointment of Joy Loewen to the position of acting executive director. Joy steps into the position following the announcement that NSI CEO John Gill is leaving the organization as of May 31, 2019. “Joy has served the National Screen Institute in a number of management roles since 2005 and brings a wealth of experience to this position,” said NSI’s Board of Directors. “Her leadership skills are an asset to NSI and will strengthen the work of the organization during this transition.” Prior to this appointment, Joy managed many of NSI’s successful training programs including NSI Totally Television, TELUS STORYHIVE, NSI Features First and NSI Drama Prize. She will continue to manage NSI Totally Television as part of her role moving forward. Joy is a media industry professional who passionately supports the development, production and exhibition of Canadian art and artists. She previously worked as a broadcast and festival programmer at WTN (now known as W Network), CBC and the Gimli Film Festival and is an active volunteer with leadership roles on several industry and non-profit boards including Manitoba Film & Music, The Winnipeg Foundation and Manitoba’s Queen’s Council Advisory. She also currently serves as a civilian aide to The Honourable Janice C. Filmon, Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba. Joy has a bachelor’s degree in radio and television arts from Ryerson University.
