STORYHIVE short The United Guys Network heads to Low to No Film Festival, July 27 Posted: 16 Jul 2019 09:23 AM PDT TELUS STORYHIVE digital short The United Guys Network from creators Tabatha Golat and Montgomery Burt screens at the Low to No Film Festival on July 27. In The United Guys Network, Paul is a loving newlywed husband who dotes on his wife. This makes the other guys in the neighbourhood look bad so they kidnap him and teach him how to be a ‘real’ man through their secret headquarters at The United Guys Network. The film has screened at over 40 festivals worldwide and won best comedy at Austin Comedy Short Film Festival and Harrogate Film Festival. It also picked up two awards at Over the Fence Comedy Film Festival in Australia and top prize at Worldfest-Houston. The Low to No Film Festival is held in Las Vegas from July 24 to August 3, 2019 and is dedicated to low and no budget projects. Dreams of the Dead Dreams of the Dead | Documentary, 17:30, English, BC, 2019 | Directors: Marlene Rodgers, Franco Pante A first-person journey propelled by memory and dreams. When the filmmaker’s grandmother dies a sudden and traumatic death, the house and small farm that had been the emotional hub of the family becomes a portal to the past. But suburban development is encroaching and the house is sold. With its demolition looming, the filmmaker takes us on a compelling journey through grief and transformation. But by immersing us in their VR art, we see that another world is possible. Creative Futures brings together three transgender youth to design their futures using Google’s Tilt Brush, a virtual reality painting application. • • • Call for films / submit by September 3We’re accepting films through FilmFreeway until Tuesday, September 3, 2019. Films chosen during this call period will premiere in the NSI Online Short Film Festival between September 16 and December 2, 2019. Films must play for a minimum of three months after their premiere date. We accept films released after January 1, 2014. If your film is programmed, you have a chance of winning the $1,250 A&E Short Filmmakers Award for best film. All NSI Online Short Film Festival winners receive a complimentary Friend membership for the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television and are qualified to be nominated for a Canadian Screen Award (if award criteria are met). Drama, comedy, animation, documentary, sci-fi, horror, music video and experimental are all eligible and must be made by a Canadian writer, director or producer. The NSI Online Short Film Festival is a year-round Canadian short film showcase with new films added every week. Since launching in 2008, the festival has programmed hundreds of films and awarded over $125K to Canadian media artists. Many of the films are available to watch in the archives.
