New for this edition of NSI IndigiDocs: Applicants no longer apply as a team. The course is now designed for individual filmmakers who have an idea for a 10-minute documentary film.

The course will be delivered in two phases. Phase 1 (for all students) is a 12-day boot camp in Winnipeg. At the end of phase 1 all students will have a market-ready film proposal.

In phase 2, a jury will choose up to four students from phase 1 who will go into production, and receive a cash award of up to $16K and approximately $10K of in-kind services. Phase 2 students will work in their own community for the majority of the time and will be paired with an industry mentor to help with development and production. They also attend Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Film Festival.

National Screen Institute seeks readers for new NSI ScriptNotes service

Posted: 25 Sep 2019 08:55 AM PDT

National Screen Institute - Canada (NSI)

The National Screen Institute – Canada (NSI) is accepting applications from experienced Canadian script readers to work with NSI as associate faculty for a new industry feedback service, NSI ScriptNotes.

NSI ScriptNotes will provide feedback and analysis on feature film and television series outlines, treatments and scripts. Readers will be selected based on experience and expertise in a variety of genres and formats.

Apply to be an NSI ScriptNotes reader by submitting your cover letter and CV to Laura Friesen, NSI’s communications and alumni relations manager, by Friday, October 4, 2019.

“The National Screen Institute has a solid reputation for giving program applicants detailed feedback on their projects. It makes sense to expand our associate faculty to include even more experienced script readers,” said Brendon Sawatzky, NSI’s director of programming. “There’s a great pool of insightful readers in our industry and we’re excited to begin offering a system that connects them to Canadian writers.”

“NSI has identified a gap in the Canadian screen industry and has the knowledge and resources to fill it,” said NSI ScriptNotes program advisor Melissa Kajpust. “Building a stable of readers with a range of skills and specialties kickstarts this process, which will ultimately help writers improve their projects with informed, relevant feedback.”
