NSI grads take home awards at imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival

imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival handed out their 2019 awards throughout last week’s programming and events, and two NSI graduates took home prizes.

The Sun Jury Award – and $1,000 cash prize – went to nîpawistamâsowin: We Will Stand Up from writer/director/producer Tasha Hubbard (NSI IndigiDocs).

The APTN/imagineNATIVE Web Series Pitch winners were Mary Galloway (TELUS STORYHIVE) and Jessie Anthony for their project Querencia. They received a $57,900 award in cash and services to develop their project.

NSI grads win 2019 Directors Guild of Canada Awards

DGC Awards

The Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) 2019 awards were handed out on Saturday, October 26 and several NSI staff – Joy Loewen, Chris Vajcner and Elise Swerhone – were lucky enough to attend the gala at Toronto’s Fairmont Royal York.

NSI alumni received the following awards:

Discovery Award

nîpawistamâsowin: We Will Stand Up from writer/director Tasha Hubbard (NSI IndigiDocs)

Outstanding directorial achievement in comedy series

Baroness von Sketch Show episode “Is That You Karen?” from directors Jordan Canning (NSI Drama Prize) and Jeremy Lalonde (NSI Totally Television)

Outstanding directorial achievement in movies for television and miniseries

Mary Kills People episode “The Key to Faith” from director Norma Bailey (NSI Totally Television)
