COUSIN collective calling for submissions from Indigenous artists, apply by February 29

COUSIN, a collective supporting Indigenous artists founded by Sky Hopinka, Adam Khalil, Alexandra Lazarowich (NSI IndigiDocs) and Adam Piron, currently has an open call for submissions.

COUSIN was created to provide support for Indigenous artists expanding traditional definitions and understandings of the moving image by experimenting with form and genre.

What they’re looking for:

  • Experimental short films
  • Hybrid works (video, performance-based, installations, etc.)
  • Finishing funds for smaller, micro features
  • Work that leans more to the provocative and channelled through a strong artistic voice

Who they’re looking for:

  • Indigenous filmmakers or principal artists from either the US and Canada, or international
  • Applicants who have completed at least two short films, or have a history of non-film work that demonstrates an artistic voice which could extend to a filmic form
  • An emphasis on experimental and hybrid works that classify as short form in terms of duration

Apply by February 29.

Cursed Films series exec-produced by Laura Perlmutter heads to SXSW

Cursed Films

Cursed Films, exec-produced by Laura Perlmutter (NSI Drama Prize), celebrates its world premiere in the episodic premieres category at the 2020 South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival March 13 to 22.

Cursed Films is a documentary series examining the facts, myths and mysteries around iconic films and franchises whose casts and crew have been struck by misfortune and tragedy including The Exorcist, Poltergeist and The Omen, among others.

Shudder, AMC Networks’ premium streaming service for horror, thrillers and the supernatural, announced the Cursed Films project as part of their expanding slate of high-quality, critically-acclaimed original programming in February 2019.
