National Screen Institute announces closure of online short film festival

It is with sadness that the National Screen Institute announces the closure of the NSI Online Short Film Festival after 11 successful years.

Launched in 2008, the NSI Online Short Film Festival provided an important platform for Canadian content, programmed thousands of films and presented over $125K in award money to filmmakers.

Despite its popularity, the festival operated at a loss so NSI has made the difficult decision to shut it down, effective immediately.

However, over 1,000 curated Canadian short films – many of them award-winning – are still available for audiences to enjoy on the festival website.

The NSI Online Short Film Festival was made possible through the generous support of Festival Partner Telefilm Canada; Supporting Sponsors Corus Entertainment, CBC Gem, Super Channel; Award Sponsor A&E Television Networks; and Industry Partner the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television.

NSI is incredibly grateful to festival sponsors and partners, past and present, for supporting this amazing showcase of Canadian works over the years.
