STORYHIVE is back with a brand new documentary edition and applications are open until October 7. The Local Heroes Documentary Edition seeks pitches from Alberta and British Columbia creators that spotlight the extraordinary individuals making a positive difference in the local community.

STORYHIVE has made updates to their program to support safe and responsible storytelling during the ongoing global pandemic.

For this edition, they’ll be awarding 40 production grants of $20K to create a locally reflective documentary.

  • The finished documentary must be a minimum of 20 minutes long. There is no set maximum.
  • In addition to a 20+ minute project, teams will be required to deliver a ‘behind-the-scenes’ program, a minimum 10 minute video that captures the making of their documentary.
  • To support safe practices during the ongoing pandemic, teams are required to limit their in-person crews to a maximum of three people. Additional provisions can be found in the edition’s submission guidelines.
  • The projects will be selected by a jury.

This is your chance to tell a story that’s important to you and your community and get production funding from TELUS.

The selected creators will also receive customized career training, filmmaking mentorship and distribution of their projects on select TELUS platforms.

Applications close at 12 p.m. PDT / 1 p.m. MDT on Wednesday, October 7, 2020.
