NSI IndigiDocs film wins top choice at Reel Pride Posted: 22 Oct 2020 05:56 PM PDT NSI IndigiDocs film êmîcêtôcêt – Many Bloodlines was awarded Jury Choice Top Short Film at the Reel Pride Film Festival Winnipeg. This award includes a William F. White International Inc. $1,000 grant and a $350 cash reward. The film, directed by Theola Ross and produced by Alex Fisher-Bailey, follows an interracial LGBTQ+ couple and their journey to parenthood. It was previously honoured at Hot Docs 2020 with the Betty Youson Award for Best Canadian Short Documentary. The film also screened at Fresno Reel Pride LGBTQ+ Film Festival in California earlier this month. Reel Pride Winnipeg celebrates queer media arts and brings awareness and understanding to global issues. The 35th annual festival was held virtually from October 13 to October 18. NSI alumni announced as finalists in Whistler Film Festival’s talent programs Posted: 22 Oct 2020 05:18 PM PDT Whistler Film Festival (WFF) announced NSI alumni as finalists in their signature talent programs. Alumni are represented in all five of the talent categories, with some alumni acting as facilitators and mentors to the participants. Indigenous Filmmaker Fellowship – led by facilitator and mentor Camille Beaudoin (NSI Totally Television, NSI Features First) Dawn Nagazina (TELUS STORYHIVE) with The Superlative Jordan Waunch (TELUS STORYHIVE) with From the Shadows Shaelyn Johnston (TELUS STORYHIVE) with Memegwesi Odessa Shuquaya (NSI IndigiDocs) with Skin of a DrumDoc Lab – facilitated by award-winning documentary producer Julia Ivanova (TELUS STORYHIVE) Ashley Hirt (CBC New Indigenous Voices) with Fip Warriors Michelle Ouellet (NSI Totally Television) with Four Years LaterPower Pitch Todd McCauley (NSI Features First) with The Medicine LineWilliam F. White International Inc.’s Producers Lab – facilitated by Jason James (NSI Totally Television) Todd McCauley with The Medicine LineScreenwriters Lab Gemma Holdway (NSI Totally Television, NSI Features First) with Reminiscent (film developed through NSI Features First)Selected projects are considered for showing at WFF and Content Summit, where creators are given the opportunity to further their current projects. Program participants receive year-round support and access to the festival and alumni community. WFF will host their virtual festival from December 1 to 20.
