Rachel Beaulieu, Amanda Kindzierski receive writing awards through The Ice Finger Commission Posted: 11 Jan 2021 02:01 PM PST Rachel Beaulieu (left) and Amanda Kindzierski (right) Congratulations to Rachel Beaulieu (NSI IndigiDocs) and Amanda Kindzierski (CBC New Indigenous Voices, NSI IndigiDocs) on their recent wins in The Ice Finger Commission through Winnipeg Film Group. Rachel won in the emerging Indigenous writers category for her screenplay Lightning. Rachel’s 1950s film follows Pete “Lightning” and a group of First Nations veterans who have stopped in for a victory drink at a small-town bar. A brawl breaks out over prejudiced remarks. Amanda won in the emerging LGBTQ2S+ writers category for her screenplay Going Away Party. The film follows a group of LGBTQ2S+ friends as they enjoy one last night together. Amanda and Rachel both receive $500 to help assist in their screenplay development. Tricia Lee’s screenplay Good Chance featured on the 2020 Black List Posted: 11 Jan 2021 12:30 PM PST Good Chance, from writer/director Tricia Lee (NSI Diverse TV Director), was featured on the 2020 Black List. The Black List is an annual compilation of most liked unproduced screenplays. The list is chosen based on votes from executives in the film industry. Tricia’s feature screenplay tells the story of a transgender teen who helps an undocumented Asian woman escape deportation. Crazy Rich Asians star Kheng Tan Hua is currently attached to the film as lead actress. Good Chance (formerly titled Mother-Daughter) was previously named the winner of the American Zoetrope Screenplay Contest and awarded Cinequest Best Feature Screenplay. Stittsville On Patrol premieres on Bell Fibe TV 1 Posted: 11 Jan 2021 12:24 PM PST Stittsville On Patrol, created and directed by Christopher Redmond (NSI Features First), premieres on Bell Fibe TV 1 and online starting Thursday, January 14. The comedy series follows a wannabe community bylaw officer who reports even the smallest of crimes. Starring Ben Milks, the Stittsville hero takes his job very seriously. Six 10-minute episodes will air on Bell Fibe TV 1, and 12 five-minute episodes can be found online starting Jan. 14.
