TELUS STORYHIVE announces 40 projects for their Local Heroes Documentary Edition

Congratulations to the 40 creators whose films were recently chosen for TELUS STORYHIVE Local Heroes Documentary Edition.

STORYHIVE selected pitches from creators in Alberta and British Columbia that highlighted extraordinary individuals making a positive difference in the local community. Each creator will receive $20K to fund their locally reflective documentary and mentorship from the National Screen Institute.

Alumni short films awarded at virtual Vancouver Short Film Festival

The Vancouver Short Film Festival (VSFF) celebrated over 60 films during their virtual festival earlier this month.

The festival weekend ended with a virtual award show which streamed live via Facebook. Winners were selected by a jury consisting of NSI alumnus Arnold Lim (NSI Features First), and filmmakers Doreen Manuel and Kathleen Mullen.

Congratulations to the NSI alumni awarded at this year’s VSFF:

Best editor award honourable mention

Idols Never Die – directed and written by Jerome Yoo, produced and edited by Thomas Affolter, produced by Derek Kwan, cinematography by Kaayla Whachell (all TELUS STORYHIVE)

Best director award and best short film award

The Ink Runs Deep – produced by Kent Donguines (TELUS STORYHIVE)

Burden of Truth acquired by Brazil’s largest streaming platform

Burden of Truth, executively produced by Eagle Vision‘s Kyle Irving (NSI Global Marketing) and Lisa Meeches (NSI Indigenous programs advisor, NSI Storytellers), has been picked up by the Brazil-based streaming service Globoplay.

All current and future seasons of the legal drama will be added to the streaming platform along with other Canadian shows Nurses and Mary Kills People. Burden of Truth is also distributed in the US on The CW.

Burden of Truth stars Kristin Kreuk as a big-city lawyer who returns to her hometown to take on what she thinks is a simple case only to find herself in a fight for justice for a group of sick girls.
