The festival runs online from March 1 to 5 streaming feature and short films from around the world. Ian Bawa’s film Strong Son optioned by Farpoint Films Posted: 24 Feb 2021 02:52 PM PST Strong Son, from award-winning Winnipeg filmmaker Ian Bawa (NSI Totally Television, NSI Business for Producers), has been optioned by Farpoint Films. The film centres on a South Asian bodybuilder that moves back into his elderly father’s house to take care of him while maintaining his own physical and mental health and becoming his father’s primary caregiver. Ian will write and direct the script based on his short film of the same name which originally premiered at the 2020 Toronto International Film Festival. Farpoint Films is a production company based out of Winnipeg led by a team of NSI grads including Kyle Bornais, John Barnard and Chris Charney (all NSI Features First). The film is set to go into production in 2022. Kyle and fellow Farpoint Films producer Tony Wosk have signed on as producers. Alumni films stream at Kingston Canadian Film Festival 2021 Posted: 24 Feb 2021 02:45 PM PST Congratulations to the alumni whose films begin streaming at Kingston Canadian Film Festival on Friday, February 26. The festival has moved online this year and includes workshops, Q+As, podcasts, and feature and short films. Beans – directed and co-written by Tracey Deer (NSI Storytellers, Featuring Aboriginal Stories Program) Bloodthirsty – produced by Wendy Hill-Tout (NSI Drama Lab) Succor – associate produced by Rachel Cairns (NSI Totally Television) Death of a Ladies Man – produced by Corey Marr (NSI Totally Television) Marlene – written, directed and produced by Wendy Hill-Tout Spirit Bear and Children Make History – directed by Amanda Strong (NSI IndigiDocs) The Magnitude of All Things – production managed by Kent Donguines (TELUS STORYHIVE)Greg Jeffs (NSI Features First) is a special guest in the workshop Breaking In: starting a career in film and media. This workshop is free to attend and takes place on March 5. Registration is open now. The festival runs from February 26 to March 7.
