Northwest Territories Film Commission renews support for NSI IndigiDocs training program

Northwest Territories Film Commission has renewed its funding commitment to the National Screen Institute’s (NSI) IndigiDocs training program.

This investment benefits current NSI IndigiDocs participant Jiah Dzentu from Liidlii Kue, Northwest Territories.

“We are always looking for opportunities to assist in the careers of Northwest Territories storytellers,” says film commissioner and promotions manager Camilla MacEachern of the Northwest Territories Film Commission. “There are so many talented filmmakers with endless stories to tell. It’s really great to have a program like NSI IndigiDocs to walk with our emerging producers through from concept to completion.”

Jiah’s project, These Tools of Mine, is a documentary following Jiah as they immerse themselves in cultural reclamation through the making of hide tanning tools, searching for independence, community, and meaning in abstraction while exploring the intersection of queerness and Indigeneity.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Northwest Territories Film Commission for this year’s edition of NSI IndigiDocs,” says NSI CEO Joy Loewen. “Jiah and their project represent the impactful stories coming from the territory, and we are proud to amplify their voice and nurture their gifts as a filmmaker.”

NSI IndigiDocs is a two-phase, part-time program offering customized training for Indigenous filmmakers who have an idea for a 10-minute documentary film.
