The Hnatyshyn Foundation has announced the winners of the REVEAL Indigenous Art Awards with 150 artists each receiving $10,000 for a total of $1.5 million in cash awards. The NSI grads included as recipients are:

• Tasha Hubbard (NSI IndigiDocs)

• Frances Koncan (CBC New Indigenous Voices)

• Courtney Montour (NSI IndigiDocs)

• Darlene Naponse (NSI Features First)

• Shelley Niro (Featuring Aboriginal Stories Program)

• Amanda Strong (NSI IndigiDocs)

• Leonard Sumner (CBC New Indigenous Voices)

• Roxanne Whitebean (NSI IndigiDocs)

Winners will accept their awards on May 22 during a ceremony in Winnipeg that includes National Chief Perry Bellegarde, Mayor of Winnipeg Brian Bowman and Canada Council CEO Simon Brault as speakers.

Weengushk Film Institute (WFI) is promoting their Creative Voices: WFI Student Film Screening on April 22 and invites the community to attend.

WFI will showcase seven student films made as part of the 2016-17 Lab 1 certificate in film production program. Shirley Cheechoo (NSI Storytellers, Telefilm Spark Plug Program) is executive/artistic director at WFI.

The event happens at 2 p.m. on April 22 at the Weengushk Film Institute, located at 5494 Highway 540 West, in M’Chigeeng, Ontario. RSVP to the screening.

WFI’s goal is to train, develop, guide and mentor young emerging artists to develop their creative skills and attain a level of professionalism that promotes self-sustainability in a competitive market.

It’s National Canadian Film Day 150 (NCFD 150) this Wednesday, April 19 and we’re celebrating all week with a special lineup of films in the NSI Online Short Film Festival chosen from REEL CANADA‘s film catalogue.
