My Millennial Life, a documentary directed and co-produced by Maureen Judge (NSI Global Marketing), won a 2017 gold world medal for documentaries from New York Festivals.

My Millennial Life is an intimate and entertaining documentary featuring five 20-somethings. It’s set against the backdrop of high unemployment, underemployment and uncertainty. The film presents the dreams and disappointments of the millennials as they navigate love, life, work and becoming a grown-up.

Congratulations to the NSI grads with films screening at this year’s Wairoa Maori Film Festival in New Zealand.

Trudy and Janine are raising money for Noel Starblanket, a featured storyteller and subject of their film From Up North, to attend the festival. Contribute to the campaign.

The Wairoa Maori Film Festival was founded in 2005 with the purpose of supporting, recognising and presenting the Indigenous storyteller narrative. The festival runs from June 2 to 5, 2017.

Entanglement, a feature film project developed through Movie Central’s Script to Screen in association with the National Screen Institute, celebrates its world premiere next week at the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF).

Entanglement was written by Jason Filiatrault in 2014. Amber Ripley (NSI Drama Prize) is co-producer and Jason James (NSI Totally Television) is the film’s director and co-producer.

“Having Entanglement premiere feels like the culmination of many years of hard work and struggle and doubt and hope, and I’m just so thankful to all the amazing and talented people who helped bring this weird little film to life,” said Jason.

“I know it’s not every day a writer gets to see their first film premiere, and none of this would be happening without NSI and the Script to Screen course – they gave us the support we needed to get the script ready, and the confidence to take it from development into production.”

In Entanglement, Ben (Thomas Middleditch) uncovers a family secret while searching for the meaning of his existence. This leads him to a woman named Hanna (Jess Weixler) who might have almost been his adopted sister.

But when he and Hanna inadvertently fall in love, and his life becomes increasingly and strangely complicated, Ben starts to realize that everything is amazingly and incredibly connected – and that the world might just be more inexplicable than he ever imagined.

“NSI is proud to have supported Jason through Entanglement‘s writing and development process,” said Brendon Sawatzky, NSI director of programming. “The film’s premiere is a huge accomplishment and we congratulate Jason and the whole team on the completion of this project.”
