Susie Winters, Arnold Lim issue casting call for their NSI Features First project All-In Madonna

Arnold Lim and Susie Winters have issued a casting call for several characters in their NSI Features First-developed project All-In Madonna.

Production is scheduled to take place in Victoria in late November. Auditions will be held in Victoria and Vancouver.

Send a resume and headshot to allinmadonna@darlenetait.com no later than Thursday, October 26. Both union and non-union performers are welcome to submit.

Tonya Williams wins WIFT-T Crystal Award

Women in Film & Television – Toronto (WIFT-T) recently announced its upcoming Crystal Award winners.

Congrats to Tonya Williams (NSI Global Marketing) who will receive the special jury award of distinction.

An award-winning actress known for playing Olivia Hastings on The Young and the Restless, Tonya founded the Toronto ReelWorld Film Festival in 2001 and spent five years on the Toronto Film Board where she worked to create more opportunities for emerging talent. She currently serves as president of her production company, Wilbo Entertainment.

The honoured filmmakers receive their awards at a gala luncheon in Toronto on December 5, 2017.

STORYHIVE web series Inconceivable nominated for Gotham Award

TELUS STORYHIVE web series Inconceivable from director Joel Ashton McCarthy has been nominated for a Gotham Award in the category of breakthrough series – short form.

Inconceivable is about an accidental pregnancy that throws Rita and Adam’s modern, label-less relationship into the terrifying world of parenthood.

The IFP Gotham Independent Film Awards is the first major awards ceremony of the film season. This year Al Gore, Jason Blum, Sofia Coppola, Dustin Hoffman and Nicole Kidman will be honoured with tributes.

The event takes place November 27, 2017 in New York.

STORYHIVE is a community-powered funding program that allows members of the community to vote for their favourite projects.

The program allows content creators in British Columbia and Alberta to submit their story ideas to an online public platform.

Participants receive mentoring through the STORYHIVE mentorship program in partnership with NSI.

Moccasin Stories from Charlene Moore, Andrew George screens at Gimme Some Truth, Nov. 4

Moccasin Stories / Link to Gimme Some Truth

Moccasin Stories, a short film from Andrew George and Charlene Moore (both CBC New Indigenous Voices), screens in the upcoming Gimme Some Truth documentary festival in Winnipeg.

In Moccasin Stories, Andrew and Charlene follow the stories and lives of Indigenous women and investigate the important role moccasins play in their lives.

The film will be shown alongside feature Highway 45 on Saturday, November 4 at the Winnipeg Film Group’s Cinematheque theatre.

Gimme Some Truth is a five-day documentary festival with master lectures, workshops and special screenings.

Wexford Plaza from Harry Cherniak (NSI Features First) opens in select theatres in Canada and the US beginning with Laemmle Theatre in Santa Monica on Friday, October 27.

In Wexford Plaza, an unexpected sexual encounter forever changes the once simple friendship of security guard Betty and bartender Danny.

This is director Joyce Wong’s debut feature. Harry is one of the film’s producers.

Dan Trotta (NSI Totally Television) recently talked to TV, eh? about his new gig on season 11 of Murdoch Mysteries and how he got from his university background as a playwright to Omni TV’s Blood and Water.

Dan wrote the Murdoch Mysteries episode “Dr. Osler Regrets” and talked about his learning curve on picking up the storytelling style of the series.

All NSI Online Short Film Festival winners receive a complimentary Friend membership for the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television and non-acting award winners are qualified to be nominated for a Canadian Screen Award (if award criteria are met).
