Don’t Talk to Irene, a feature from Pat Mills (NSI Drama Prize, NSI Totally Television, NSI Features First, Script to Screen) and Alyson Richards (NSI Drama Prize, NSI Features First), recently won the comedy vanguard award at the 2017 Austin Film Festival.

When Irene, the fattest girl in high school, gets suspended, she must endure two weeks of community service at a retirement home.

Following her passion for cheerleading, she secretly signs up the senior residents to audition for a dance-themed reality show to prove that you don’t need to be physically ‘perfect’ to be perfectly AWESOME.

Todd & The Book of Pure Evil: The End of The End, the new animated feature which picks up where the TV series (developed through NSI Totally Television) left off, has released a new interactive map for upcoming screenings.

The TV series was developed by Anthony Leo, Charles Picco and Craig David Wallace.

NSI Features First-developed Public Schooled, from writer/director Kyle Rideout and writer/producer Josh Epstein, has been picked up by Gravitas Ventures for release in multiple territories including the US, Australia and South Africa.

The film is expected to be released in the US in early 2018.

Kaleidoscope Entertainment will release the film theatrically in the UK.

Public Schooled, developed through NSI Features First in 2014, tells the story of socially awkward Liam who has been homeschooled his entire life. When he falls in love with a popular one-legged girl, he abandons his mother’s suffocating love and enrolls in public school, getting a crash course in sex, drugs and social mayhem.

From Up North, the NSI IndigiDocs short from director Trudy Stewart and producer Janine Windolph, is nominated for a Saskatchewan Independent Film Award in the best short film category.

The film features Noel Starblanket (pictured) who shares his experiences of attending the Lebret Indian Residential School. While listening to Noel’s stories Trudy reflects on her time listening to survivors’ stories and her connection to the Indian Residential School legacy.

The awards take place November 17 at Regina’s Artesian theatre and include screenings of the nominated films.

Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World from producers Catherine Bainbridge and Christina Fon (both NSI Global Marketing) celebrates its world television premiere on HBO Canada this weekend.

Rumble airs on Sunday, November 5 at 8:15 p.m. ET.

The film tells the story of an essential and, until now, missing chapter in the history of American music: music icons talking about some of their biggest Native influences. Many of the musicians profiled in Rumble either kept their heritage secret or downplayed it, fearing racist backlash.

Previously Rumble won the audience award at Hot Docs International Documentary Film Festival and the world cinema documentary special jury award for masterful storytelling at Sundance.
