Jordan Canning’s Suck it Up opens theatrically in Canada on December 1

Suck It Up, the second feature from director Jordan Canning (NSI Drama Prize), opens theatrically in Canada on Friday, December 1 at Carlton Cinema in Toronto and Landmark Cinemas in Ottawa, Whitby, Winnipeg and Calgary. This is a week-long run.

Suck It Up is a female buddy film about loss, grief and the tenacity of friendship starring Grace Glowicki and Faye Erin Carter.

NSI Features First-developed film Venus celebrates English language premiere at Whistler Film Fest

The National Screen Institute – Canada (NSI) is proud to announce the English language festival premiere of NSI Features First-developed film Venus from writer/director Eisha Marjara and producer Joe Balass. The film, developed through the course in 2014, screens at Whistler Film Festival in December.

This screening follows its French-language fest premiere at the Festival du nouveau cinéma in Montreal in October.

“Venus got its jump start with the NSI Features First program. NSI mentored us throughout the making of the film and championed us as a filmmaking team during the long haul,” said Eisha and Joe. “We owe a lot to the team at NSI for their incredible commitment and support.”

Genders, generations and cultures collide in this comedy about the modern family unit, which follows a transitioning woman who discovers she’s the father of a 14-year-old boy.

“Venus is another great example of the ongoing success of NSI Features First,” said John Gill, CEO of NSI. “The course gives participants the development tools to take their films and get them made. It’s exciting to see Eisha and Joe reach this milestone.”

Venus screens at the 2017 Whistler Film Festival on December 2, 2017 at 8:30 p.m. It plays again on December 3 at 6 p.m.

NSI Features First is a development training launch pad for producer/writer teams looking to produce their first or second feature film with strong commercial appeal.

The course gets results: 20+ feature films developed through the program have been produced since the course launched. Most recently, Josh Epstein and Kyle Rideout premiered Public Schooled at TIFF 2017.
