The National Screen Institute – Canada (NSI) is pleased to announce the teams selected for the 2018 NSI IndigiDocs course:

• When The Children Left from producer Ryan Wilson and director Charlene Moore (both Winnipeg, MB)

• Love and Revolution from producer Chris Ross and director Candy Fox (both Regina, SK)

• Path Without End from producer Christine Friday (Ottawa, ON) and director Cara Mumford (Peterborough, ON)

• Big Momma from producer Damien Eagle Bear (Burnaby, BC) and director Caitlyn Pantherbone (Calgary, AB)

“We’re excited to welcome this new group of filmmakers to the course and to begin working with them in February,” said Ursula Lawson, NSI IndigiDocs program co-manager. “Their story ideas are already strong and the progress they’ll make over the next year will refine those ideas into powerful documentaries.”

The course provides Indigenous director/producer teams with training, mentorship and cash towards the production of a short documentary. Students also travel to Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in Toronto and have their short films broadcast nationally on APTN and streamed on aptn.ca and nfb.ca.

Alanis Obomsawin of the National Film Board returns this year to share her experiences as a documentary filmmaker. Lisa Jackson and Shane Belcourt are the director advisors and Ursula Lawson and Elise Swerhone are the program co-managers. Lisa Meeches is the NSI Indigenous Training Programs Advisor.

Everyone’s Famous, the comedy web series from producers Walter Forsyth (NSI Totally Television) and Angus Swantee (NSI Drama Prize), has launched its second season.

Everyone’s Famous serves up a new episode every Thursday (10 a.m. EST) on YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo and Daily Motion.

Both Walter and Angus direct episodes in season two along with Jay Dahl (NSI Drama Prize).

Watch Sasquatch hunters, exorcists, clowns, aliens and a flash mob funeral as people turn cameras on themselves and hope for a bit of internet fame and glory.

Lakeshorts International Short Film Festival is seeking short films – under 20 minutes – for the 2018 edition of their fest.

Accepted films are eligible to win prizes including $12.5K of studio space from Cinespace, $5K in camera rentals from Dazmo Camera, $5K in artwork and design from Agency 71, $2.5K in post-production services from Deluxe, $2.5K in rentals from William F. White and $2.5K in sound services from Post City Sound.

The eighth edition of Lakeshorts International Short Film Festival takes place in Etobicoke, ON from April 20 to 21, 2018.
