Theatrical run for NSI Features First-developed Venus kicks off in Montréal, Québec City, March 2

NSI Features First-developed Venus, from writer/director Eisha Marjara and producer Joe Balass, begins its Canadian theatrical run in Montréal and Québec City on March 2.

Venus screens at the Cinéma du ParcCinéma Cineplex Forum (both in Montréal) and Cinéma Le Clap (Québec City) beginning Friday.

Genders, generations and cultures collide in this comedy about the modern family unit, which follows a transitioning woman who discovers she’s the father of a 14-year-old boy.

NSI Features First is a development training launch pad for producer/writer teams looking to produce their first or second feature film with strong commercial appeal.

NSI grads named finalists in WGC Screenwriting Awards

The Writers Guild of Canada (WGC) recently announced the finalists for the 22nd annual WGC Screenwriting Awards.

Congratulations to these NSI alumni whose projects are among the finalists:

  • The Road Forward by Marie Clements (Featuring Aboriginal Stories Program, NSI Storytellers)

The awards celebrate Canadian screenwriters and their scripts. The winners will be recognized at a gala evening hosted by Gavin Crawford on April 30 in Toronto.

We’re accepting films through FilmFreeway until Monday, March 12, 2018.

If your film is programmed, you have a chance of winning over $3K in cash awards. We accept films released after January 1, 2013.

All NSI Online Short Film Festival winners receive a complimentary Friend membership for the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television and non-acting award winners are qualified to be nominated for a Canadian Screen Award (if award criteria are met).

Your film must be less than 30 mins long. Drama, comedy, animation, documentary, sci-fi, horror, music video and experimental are all eligible and must be made by a Canadian writer, director or producer.
