Tracey Deer

Tracey Deer (NSI Storytellers, Featuring Aboriginal Stories Program) has become an ambassador for Toronto International Film Festival’s (TIFF) Share Her Journey campaign.

Share Her Journey launched in 2017 as a five-year fundraising campaign aimed at increasing participation, skills and opportunities for women behind and in front of the camera.

Since January 2019 the campaign has raised $2.4 million to support initiatives aimed at mentoring and developing the careers of women in the industry, such as:

  • TIFF Micki Moore Residency, 10-week mentorship program for Canadian feature-film screenwriters who are women
  • The RBC Female Creator Initiative helps creators who are women grow their careers by fostering artistic skills development, mentorship and year-round networking opportunities
  • The Betty-Ann Heggie Speaker Series aims to spark conversations on gender equity and gender identities in film

Tracey joins 21 fellow ambassadors in championing female storytellers. Other alumni ambassadors include Molly McGlynn (NSI Drama Prize), Ashley McKenzie (NSI Drama Prize) and Jennifer Podemski (NSI Global Marketing, Telefilm Canada Spark Plug Program).
