World premiere of NSI IndigiDocs film, Spirit of a Nation: The Places We Belong

Spirit of a Nation: The Places We Belong, developed through NSI IndigiDocs by 2021 participant Brandon Wilson, makes its world premiere at NorthwestFest in Edmonton this weekend.

The film tells the story of the conflicting nature often felt by Cree people as they yearn to be back on the land of their ancestors. Director Brandon Wilson takes us to the sacred lands of the Fort McKay First Nations People in northern Alberta.

“It’s really exciting to premiere at NorthwestFest. Being so close to my home territories, a lot of family and friends are attending, and when they see the beauty of the lakes captured and presented on the big screen, I think they will be blown away,” says Brandon.

“Bringing the film to screens so it can be shared around and raise awareness for the challenges we face as Indigenous peoples in practicing our traditional ways has been a great joy. I’m endlessly thankful to the National Screen Institute and its partners in making this happen.”

Spirit of a Nation: The Places We Belong screens on Saturday, May 14 at 2 p.m. at the Metro Cinema in Edmonton. The short documentary  premieres alongside the feature film, One Seven Nine, from Sam Betchel.
