Apply for YMA Andra Sheffer Scholarship

The Youth Media Alliance (YMA) is looking for a Canadian student at the university / college level who shows talent and passion for creating innovative children’s content.

One outstanding student planning to pursue a career in children’s television or digital media production will be selected to receive the YMA Andra Sheffer Scholarship.

The scholarship includes $4,000 for travel expenses, one Kidscreen Summit conference registration, one Banff World Media Festival registration and mentorship opportunities. The total value is approximately $9,000 cash and in-kind.

Mentorship will be offered by YMA staff, board of directors members and children’s industry stakeholders and may include the following: help with choosing the most appropriate sessions, event orientation, personal introductions to industry members, attendance at networking meetings and, as appropriate, a review of the student’s pitch documents.

About Andra Sheffer

Andra Sheffer is the former CEO of the Independent Production Fund, which invests in drama series created for digital platforms and the Cogeco TV Production Program for the production of television drama series. Previously, her achievements included founding the Bell Fund, for which she served as executive director (1997–2014). When she retired from this position in 2015, Andra was honoured with the YMA’s Outstanding Achievement Award. This scholarship in her name was established by members of the Canadian children’s TV and digital media industry.
