By Jerry DiColoFRED AIMS FOR PANHANDLE: Tropical Storm Fred is currently spinning near the Dominican Republic on its way into the Gulf of Mexico, and forecasters on Wednesday said they expect the storm to eventually make landfall somewhere along the Florida panhandle. But several days out, the track remains uncertain, and officials say it's now time for Louisiana residents to finalize their hurricane-season preparations and stay aware of any updates. All of the coverage of the 2021 Hurricane Season from the Times-Picayune can be found here. COVID CANCELLATIONS: The Jazz Fest cancellation has prompted more event organizers to cancel or delay upcoming events as the New Orleans area deals with a delta-variant driven wave of COVID infections. The latest is Mid-Summer Mardi Gras, which said it won't be parading this year. “We feel it will be in everyone’s best interest,” a parade spokesperson wrote in the cancellation announcement, Doug MacCash reports. The move follows the shuttering of White Linen Night and several other upcoming gatherings. We're keeping a list of what's off, so check back for updates. LATEST DATA: Coronavirus cases continue to rise. Here's the latest data on Louisiana, broken down by region. Thanks, as always, for reading The Lunch Line.
