1834 - The Prophet Joseph returned home to Kirtland, Ohio, after traveling to New Portage, Ohio. (History of the Church, 2:54).
1839 - Joseph and Hyrum Smith, Alexander McRae, Caleb Baldwin, and Lyman Wight, after their arranged escape from Missouri and their traveling "by night and by day . . . suffering much fatigue and hunger," arrive in Quincy, Illinois. Joseph is reunited with Emma and his family after suffering through six months of confinement, most of which was in Liberty Jail. He writes, "I arrived in Quincy, Illinois, amidst the congratulations of my friends, and the embraces of my family, whom I found as well as could be expected, considering what they had been called to endure" (History of the Church, 3:327).
1847 - The first pioneer wagon train arrived at the Pawnee missionary station, approximately 134 miles from Winter Quarters.
1976 - The first stake in Taiwan is organized in Taipei.
1978 - The Church announces the implementation of the name extraction program, through which Church members research the names and vital information of deceased individuals and families for temple work.
2000 - The Church announces the 100 millionth copy of the Book of Mormon had been printed and distributed world wide. The Book of Mormon has now been translated in 100 languages.
2001 -The Winter Quarters Temple in Omaha, Nebraska, is dedicated by President Gordon B. Hinckley. |
