1829 - Sometime during the month of February, the Prophets father, Joseph Smith, Sr., visited him in Harmony, Pennsylvania. Joseph received a revelation for his father, known today as Doctrine and Covenants 4, on the qualifications of those who desire to serve God in the work of building the kingdom of God on earth. 1831 - The Prophet Joseph and his wife, Emma, arrived in Kirtland, Ohio, by sleigh. When the sleigh stopped in front of the Gilbert and Whitney Store, the Prophet walked into the store and said, "Newel K. Whitney! Thou art the man!" He then introduced himself and said, "You've prayed me here, now what do you want" (History of the Church, 1:146). The Prophet had seen in vision the Whitneys praying for him to come to Kirtland, Ohio. The Prophet and his wife stayed with the Whitney family for several weeks after arriving in Kirtland. |
