QUOTE OF THE DAY
Wilford Woodruff
"Let us rise up and magnify our calling, and labor before God until we can get the Holy Spirit, and until our prayers rend the veil of eternity and enter into the ears of the God of Sabaoth and [are] answered in blessings upon our heads" (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Wilford Woodruff, p. 113).
Later that afternoon Layne took Garrett down to the Santa Monica Pier. Large portions of it had crumbled into the sea, but people had nailed together some boards and plywood so they could still make their way out onto it. Garrett saw a dozen guys standing on the pier, casting their fishing lines. Some were reeling in fish even as they watched.
1834 - Zion's Camp ferried across the Illinois River. They had been threatened by their enemies, but there were no problems. They encamped on the bank of the river. They visited several of the ancient burial mounds built by the ancestors of the Native Americans in the area (Zelph's Mound). On top of one mound, the brethren dug the "depth of about one foot, discovered the skeleton of a man, almost entire, and between his ribs the stone point of a Lamanitish arrow, which evidently produced his death. . . . " (History of the Church, 2:79-80).
