SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY Alma 34:28 "And now behold, my beloved brethren, I say unto you, do not suppose that this is all; for after ye have done all these things, if ye turn away the needy, and the naked, and visit not the sick and afflicted, and impart of your substance, if ye have, to those who stand in need--I say unto you, if ye do not any of these things, behold, your prayer is vain, and availeth you nothing, and ye are as hypocrites who do deny the faith." |
QUOTE OF THE DAY Brigham Young "You know that it is one peculiarity of our faith and religion never to ask the Lord to do a thing without being willing to help him all that we are able; and then the Lord will do the rest" (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Brigham Young, p. 46). |

The Prophet also baptized 80 people in the Mississippi River near his home, including M. L. D. Wasson, a nephew of Emma Smith, the first of her family to join the Church. 1977 - The first stake in Rhode Island is organized at Providence. 2000 - The Church announces the shipment of 11 large shipping containers of clothing, food, and medical supplies to Mozambique and 10 containers to Zimbabwe in Africa to help in the humanitarian efforts after weeks of heavy rains cause widespread flooding. 2001 - The Brazil Chamber of Deputies (similar to the U.S. House of Representatives) recognized the 159th anniversary of the Relief Society.
