Lorenzo Snow
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Lorenzo Snow

"Be upright, just and merciful, exercising a spirit of nobility and godliness in all your intentions and resolutions---in all your acts and dealings. Cultivate a spirit of charity; be ready to do for others more than you would expect from them if circumstances were reversed. Be ambitious to be great, not in the estimation of the worldly minded, but in the eyes of God" (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Lorenzo Snow, p. 260).

TODAY IN CHURCH HISTORY
September 14

1843 - The Prophet Joseph attended a second lecture on Socialism by John Finch.  After Mr. Finch was through, "I made a few remarks, alluding to Sidney Rigdon and Alexander Campbell getting up a community at Kirtland, and of the big fish there eating up all the little fish.  I said I did not believe the doctrine" (History of the Church, 6:33).

It Is All about People
By Bishop Gérald Caussé

On Thursday, October 31, 1833, a mob of forty to fifty men assaulted the Whitmer settlement, which was located two miles east of the western border of Missouri. Ten homes were destroyed and many of the men were brutally beaten and whipped while their terrified families fled into the woods.

Humor

An older High Councilman began his talk about the resurrection with this wry statemen, "Death is a congenital birth defect."

In another ward, this same High Councilmen began this same talk with this statement, " Life is a terminal disease." (Stories & Jokes of Mormon Folks, p. 14)
