Art was always a part of her life from an early age. She attended Potsdam State University for studio art & graphic design. After graduation she worked as an art director for an ad agency, then freelanced until she started her family. As luck would have it, her oldest daughter, Julia, shared her passion for the visual arts. When Julia started taking lessons from professional artists in the community, Laurie joined her to further her studies & rekindle her first love of fine art. Since then she has studied with visiting artists such as David Kassan, Rob Liberace, Susan Lyons, Michelle Dunaway & Jeff Hein, as well as local artists in the community and has attended over a half dozen conferences of the National Portrait Society. She worked as an artist in residence at her local high school, teaching her charcoal portrait techniques, and offers private tutoring in her home. She is a member of the National Portrait Society, the Cecilia Beaux forum, Oil Painters of America, Rochester Art Club, Greater Rochester PleinAir Painters & the Western NY Pastel Society. Her work has been accepted into numerous local & national juried shows & has garnered many awards, including BoldBrush Outstanding pastel award. Portraits are her passion, to find the humanity & personality of her subjects are her primary goal. Lately she has been working toward perfecting her PleinAir & still life skills. She works mostly in oils, pastels, charcoal & occasionally watercolors. She lives in Fairport, NY with her husband Mark, an architect. Her 3 children all have talents in the arts.
