#1 Lawsuit Links PFAS PFOA Water Contamination to Ulcerative Colitis
Charleston, SC - On September 13, Marye Smith filed a perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina. Smith v. 3M Company alleges that Ms. Smith developed ulcerative colitis because of years of exposure to toxic PFAS in drinking water contaminated with aqueous firefighting foam.

#2 Bayer has been ordered by a Missouri jury to pay $1.56
Jefferson City, MO - A Missouri jury ordered Bayer on November 17th to pay $1.56 billion to three plaintiffs who blamed their non-Hodgkin lymphoma on glyphosate in Roundup, Monsanto’s weed- killer.

#5 Bard to Pay $500,000 in Third Bellwether Trial
Santa Clara, CA - In the third hernia mesh bellwether trial in multidistrict litigation, C.R. Bard and Davol Inc. were ordered by a federal jury to pay $500,00 to a Maine man who claimed his hernia mesh caused pain and other complications. The jurors found the company liable for failure to warn, strict liability, and negligence but Bard was off the hook for any punitive damages.

#6 Jury Awards $107 Million in Asbestos Mesothelioma Lawsuit
Los Angeles, CA - On July 11, a California jury awarded the family of a man who died of asbestos mesothelioma more than $107 million. Joel Hernandezcueva, the father of four young children, died in 2014 from pleural mesothelioma, a terminal cancer that his treating physicians testified is caused only by asbestos exposure.

#7 Seroquel Side Effects for the Elderly
Pearblossom, CA - Seroquel is a neuroleptic indicated for the treatment of bipolar disorder—and like most drugs carries a host of Seroquel side effects, including diabetes, tardive dyskinesia and even birth defects. However, there is a little-known use for Seroquel off-label that concerned the daughter of one Alzheimer's patient for whom she was caring.

#8 Zetia and/or Statins: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Halle-Wittenberg, Germany - Can a drug designed to curb heart attacks also cause heart attacks in some people? Apparently, it's possible with statins or medication like Zetia when used in combination with a statin. Statins are designed to lower the "bad" cholesterol thought to be a contributing factor for heart attack and stroke, while leaving the so-called "good" cholesterol to do the good work that good cholesterol, ultimately, does.

#9 Celexa Side Effects May Affect the Elderly
Pittsburgh, PA - When it comes to Celexa side effects, at least some of the focus has been on the risk of Celexa birth defects and whether or not Celexa is linked to birth defects at all. But a study recently published in the British Medical Journal suggests that seniors who take medications like Celexa could be at an increased risk of serious side effects, too.

#10 Xerox Settles ERISA Lawsuit for $7.2 Million plus Free or Reduced-Cost Retiree Medical and Dental Coverage
Rochester, NY - On June 15, plaintiffs revealed that Xerox Corp. has agreed to settle a class action ERISA lawsuit by paying the 900-retiree class $7.2 million to reimburse them for premiums paid since January 2019. In addition, Xerox committed itself to providing the retirees with premium-free medical coverage and reduced-premium dental coverage.
