#1 Bayer Hopeful Farm Bill will End Roundup LawsuitsSanta Clara, CA - Bayer has aggressively lobbied the upcoming Farm Bill, which Congress has to adopt every five years to sustain federal agriculture and nutrition programs. The ag chemical giant is counting on the provision that would result in only EPA-approved labels on pesticide packaging, such as Monsanto Roundup – amounting to a “Get out of jail free” card for pesticide companies, says one victims’ rights representative.
#2 Cathay Pacific Pilots Flying High in California with $16.65M SettlementLos Angeles, CA - Airline workers in California are likely flying high with news that Cathay Pacific pilots will receive $16.65M to resolve a wage and hour class action lawsuit filed back in 2017. The pilots claimed the airline violated California’s labor laws relating to meal and rest periods, overtime and reserve duty pay – in some instances they weren’t even paid minimum wage. The settlement, however, tallies up to about three times as much as Cathay’s prior offer.
#3 Baby Formula Lawsuits RisingSanta Clara, CA - The first lawsuit to go to trial against baby formula maker Abbott last month resulted in a Missouri state court jury awarding $495 million to a family who claimed their infant daughter developed necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) after receiving Similac while in a neonatal intensive care unit. The first trial against the Enfamil formula maker in March 2024 ended with a $60 million verdict to the mother of a premature baby who died of NEC.
#4 Disney Lawsuit Alleges Employees Forced to RelocateLos Angeles, CA - Two Walt Disney employees who were allegedly pressured to relocate from California to join a Florida office that never opened are suing the company. The California labor lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, claims the production designers and several others would have lost their jobs if they didn’t relocate. They are seeking damages for “a deceptive and disruptive period of their lives”.
#5 Transgender Veterans Sue VA over Gender-Confirmation SurgeryWashington, DC - On April 15, an organization representing transgender veterans (Transgender American Veterans Association or “TAVA”) sued the Veterans Administration, over its failure to approve gender-affirming surgery at VA hospitals. The VA lawsuit argues that gender-confirmation surgery is medically necessary care and that the VA’s exclusion of this kind of care from the Veterans’ Medical Benefits Package violates:

#9 $95.7 Wells Fargo Settlement Offer in Question as Objector Raises New IssuesSan Jose, CA - On September 23, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California heard objections to a $95.7 million offer made by Wells Fargo to settle consolidated class action lawsuits brought by Wells Fargo Home Mortgage Consultants (HMCs). The lawsuits allege that the bank violated California state labor laws by failing to either provide or pay for rest breaks for its HMCs.
#10 Exactech Recalls Shoulder DevicesSanta Clara, CA - Exactech has voluntarily recalled ankle, hip, and knee replacement devices over the years but it took an FDA warning letter for the medical device manufacturer to recall its Equinoxe Shoulder Systems. The agency was concerned about the shoulder device failure due to defective packaging and advised surgeons against implanting them.
