| Good morning and welcome to the new week. Here's your update. Mild highs across Minnesota. Twin Cities, it'll be in the upper 70s with 10 to 15 mph winds and nighttime lows in the upper 50s with clear skies. Statewide, partly sunny with highs in the upper 60s to mid-70s. More on Updraft | Forecast The Minnesota Legislature has failed to pass police reform measures. Despite widespread public outcry in the wake of George Floyd's killing by Minneapolis police, the special session adjourned over the weekend with little work on the matter done. Among the police reform proposals that failed: expanded training, a new, independent unit to investigate police killings of civilians, banning warrior-style training and increasing civilian oversight. They didn't pass a bonding bill, either. Instead, the session's last night was spent deciding how to dole out $841 million in local coronavirus relief. Minnesota surpassed 500,000 coronavirus tests over the weekend. It's a far cry from three months ago when a lack of testing materials hampered the state's COVID-19 response. State officials have also laid out guidelines for youth sports to resume in coming weeks. Outdoor sports may begin June 24 and indoor sports July 1, but the Health Department has issued a series of recommendations: Avoid sharing individual water bottles, community snacks or towelsTry to use “dedicated personal equipment” such as bats, mitts and racketsFind new ways to show sportsmanship, including “tip your hats instead of handshakes. Here are the latest coronavirus statistics: 32,920 cases confirmed (461 new) via 504,363 tests1,380 deaths (8 new)3,797 cases requiring hospitalization322 people remain hospitalized; 160 in intensive care28,663 patients no longer needing isolation — Cody Nelson, MPR News | @codyleenelson |
