New congressional map: Louisiana lawmakers just approved a congressional map to create a new Black-majority district, Meghan Friedmann reports. The map is favored by Gov. Jeff Landry. See the details.

Calcasieu bridge: Landry announced Thursday a deal that would reduce the toll commercial truckers would pay to cross a rebuilt Calcasieu Parish bridge, Tim Boone reports. The deal secures local dollars for the bridge, money the state needed to find if it hoped to keep some $150 million in federal grants for that project.

Numbers to Know

Under the new funding deal to rebuild the Calcasieu Parish bridge:

Commercial trucks will pay $8.25 to cross the bridge

Under an old deal, they would have paid $12.50

_____ 

All local cars and trucks will pay 25 cents

_____ 

Under the old deal, local cars would have paid 25 cents, non-local cars paid $2.50, medium trucks paid $2.55 and large trucks paid $3.82.

As of Friday morning, it was unclear what non-local cars will pay under the new deal
