There's a group of leading Utah legislators and members of Gov. Gary Herbert's administration working to find a compromise with pro-public education and college officials over the state Constitution's specific earmarking of income tax revenues for public school/college funding.

Impeachment

A top Pentagon official overseeing U.S. policy regarding Ukraine told House impeachment investigators last month that President Donald Trump directed the freezing of military aid to Ukraine over the summer [NBC News].

Two senior U.S. officials told House investigators that Ukranian leaders were aware nearly $400 million in congressionally approved security assistance had been frozen well before the information became public, which undercuts a key point of President Trump's defense that there was "no quid pro quo" over the aid [Washington Post].

Former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick is reportedly laying the groundwork to launch a presidential bid next year [Washington Post].


Immigration

The Supreme Court will hear arguments Tuesday on whether the Trump administration can end a program that keeps about 700,000 young immigrants from being deported [New York Times].

The U.S. held a record number of migrant kids in custody in 2019 [AP].
