Avon has been sued in federal court by former employees who claim they were discriminated against because of pregnancies and breastfeeding. The lawsuit also claims Avon uses mandatory arbitration to resolve allegations of harassment.

Starbucks plans to lay off 5%, or about 350 people, of its corporate workforce, with employees in marketing, creative, product technology and store development affected. The layoff applies to work that has been eliminated or deprioritized, CEO Kevin Johnson says.

Fed paper: Widen workforce by improving family policies
Better policies for family leave could draw more prime-age people into the workforce, according to research from the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. The paper notes that 87% of Canadians of prime age are in the workforce but that 82% of Americans are.

High school to offer cybersecurity job training
A San Antonio high school next fall is planning to open a Pathways in Technology Early College High School focused on cybersecurity education. It will be one of more than 30 such high schools in the state where students can earn diplomas, associate degrees, certifications and undertake work-based training.
