Leading with Strength
Last week, the Biden administration announced plans to release $6 billion dollars to Iran in exchange for American detainees. Iran is the world’s largest state sponsor of terror. As such, this agreement is yet another violation of the United States’ long-standing “no concessions” policy—which furthers a dangerous precedent and puts a price on American lives.
This week, I led a letter to the Biden administration demanding answers for why they are jeopardizing the safety of United States citizens abroad. Instead of catering to adversarial states and encouraging additional hostage taking, our government should be demonstrating leadership on the world stage with strength and integrity. I’ll never stop fighting to protect our homeland, uphold our American values, and keep American citizens safe, both at home and abroad.

Demanding Answers on the Deadly Afghanistan Withdrawal
With 85 years of combined military experience in my family, I’ve always been a strong believer in our nation’s rich tradition of protecting American ideals. For two decades, America defended democratic principles against the terrorist threat in Afghanistan. Two years ago this week, President Biden's deadly withdrawal empowered the Taliban, erased hard-fought freedoms, and cost American lives.
The Biden administration’s botched withdrawal sent a signal to our allies that our country cannot be trusted to keep our promises. It also let down our brave men and women in uniform who fought for 20 years to further our mission in Afghanistan, only to have their progress destroyed by President Biden’s failure of leadership. As we move forward, I will continue to seek the accountability for this failure.

Calling Out a Year of Failure
This week, President Biden celebrated the one-year anniversary of his Inflation Acceleration Act. While his signature legislation has raised energy costs, it has failed to make life better for working families. Instead, the average family now pays an average $709 more per month than two years ago.
Growing up, my mama worked 16-hour days to keep me and my brother fed. I know the struggle Americans like her are facing just to survive in President Biden’s broken economy. That’s why I'll never stop fighting for common sense, free-market policies that give everyone the chance to live their American dream.
Intern With My Office
I am now accepting applications for internships in my Washington, D.C., North Charleston, Columbia, and Greenville offices for the Fall of 2023. Every year, young people from South Carolina and around the country have the opportunity to get involved in their government by interning in one of my offices. The internship program offers undergraduate and graduate students the chance to work with public service professionals and gain practical experience in constituent services, government policy, and more. Students of all majors, particularly those studying governmental affairs, public policy, or communications, are welcome to apply.

Spilling the #SCSweet Tea on Helping Maui
The recent fires in Hawaii have been devastating to the Maui community, killing more than a hundred and destroying over 2,200 homes. As thousands of Hawaiians have been impacted by this tragedy, small businesses in South Carolina are stepping up to provide help and resources to Maui. Five Greenville restaurants are raising support by holding a brunch and donating all sales to disaster relief efforts for Hawaii. I’m proud to see our state coming together to help Americans in need.
