Dear HIM professional,

Since the United States reported its first case of COVID-19 earlier this year, things have changed at a rapid pace. To mitigate the rising infections and the impact on the healthcare industry, many HIM professionals saw changes to their work environment and their daily routine. As the situation continues to evolve, understanding how the profession is impacted is essential to make plans, set expectations, and begin to grasp the long-term implications.

To help HIM professionals get a handle on changes in the industry, HIM Briefings is conducting a survey on HIM roles and responsibilities and how they have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. According to preliminary results, more than 70% of HIM professionals began working remotely due to COVID-19 and about half reported that their offices have reopened in some fashion. So far, approximately 95% say that staff have been laid off, furloughed, or seen a reduction in hours, and only 48% reported that all affected positions and staff have been fully restored.
