Interested in teaching an online climate course?

As part of the Climate Commitment, Duke is exploring new ways to leverage online learning to provide climate and sustainability educational opportunities to learners anywhere, anytime from K-12 students to Duke alumni and working adult learners globally.

We are currently soliciting potential course ideas from Duke faculty as well as seeking to better understand faculty and teaching staff bandwidth to teach these audiences. If you are interested in the possibility of developing a short course, or a series of short courses, or would like to provide feedback on this initiative, we invite your comments and ideas in the following survey.

All time enrollments in Duke’s Coursera courses recently passed 10 million! Members of the Duke community (all Duke students, faculty and staff) get free access to all Duke-created Coursera courses, plus hundreds more from peer universities. Whether you want to supplement your education, advance your career, or learn for personal enjoyment, Coursera for Duke has a course for you.

Supporting Duke’s commitment to make web content accessible to everyone, OIT recently announced the launch of a revamped Web Accessibility site. The updated website is a powerful tool for both educating and training the Duke Community. It now includes a "how to…" section, with information about web accessibility specifically for the roles of content creator, designer, developer, and details on how to do an accessibility assessment yourself.

Since 2017, new and substantially modified public Duke websites have been required to conform to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 AA before launch. That requirement remains in place, but we are now encouraging that new sites be developed, as feasible, in accordance with WCAG 2.1 AA.

The best way to ensure your site meets Duke's Web Accessibility Guidelines is to request a free assessment by the Web Accessibility team.

Joel Crawford-Smith, Duke’s senior web accessibility administrator, will hold a training on Thursday, July 25 at 2:00 for website managers, content creators, designers, and developers in support of the changes. Please direct any questions to web-accessibility@duke.edu.

On June 15-16, Duke University hosted the Council meeting and the Symposium for the International Association for Engineering Continuing Education (IACEE) at its Duke in DC offices. This meeting of the global leaders of engineering education and lifetime learning took place in one of the most consequential cities in the world; DC is a bold place. It is not a coincidence that the theme for this symposium was “a bold educational agenda for lifetime engineering education."

What faculty members have said is most frustrating about their jobs and how administrators can better support them in small yet impactful ways.
